I have never heard of a Bios eprom being damaged that way. More likely, the problem could be:

1)There is a BIOS write protect jumper(or switch) located somewhere on the motherboard, and it is set in the "protect" position.
2)There is a BIOS setting to disable BIOS flash (write protect).

Just a guess though... perhaps you should tell us what model mb it is?
