Firstly get passed the basics, you current CPU(well it almost is)and your board design are such that you can upgrade to another CPU of the same manufacture but cant update to a different type alltogether, plainly your board only supports the weak cyrix and wont take an AMD CPU of any design, it's just not compatible.
If you want a proper CPU a K6-2 450 is hardly a step in the right direction, first boards that support that old CPU are not made anymore and any modern OS demands much more from a system than that can give.If you find an old CPU like that, it's unlikely to be new and is probably near the end of it's natural life anyway. Also you would need an old second hand board for it, none of this would be further upgradeable and the proposed upgrade leaves you something like 20% of the system required for entry level, you wont be able to run newer apps or games. I would seriously suggest you stay as you are until you feel able to get a newer board and CPU, that will give you more power.
