: : : : : Please help, My other network computer has died, rather it wont boot. It gets to the stage when the floppy/hdd are about to load/ start windows and freezes. So i am unable to boot from floppy or another hard drive. I have done: removed cpu, bios battery, set bios jumper to clear, removed all ribbons and cables, removed memory tried other memory, and every variation of the above, i cannot think of anything else. Anyone any ideas?
: : : : : It is a K7VZA motherboard with an award bios, it runs 1200mhz athlon, with 512mb ram, it has worked faultlessly for the last year and a bit

: : : : See if it will boot from a 98 startup disk(a:)and check if the HDD shows up. At the A: prompt type c: if it comes up you may have a virus or corrupted OS. if not the HDD is dead.

: : : Hi Ya
: : : No it doesnt get to that stage, it freezes just before it starts the boot sequence.

: : See if you can boot in safe mode--f8 at startup.Keep pressing it until you go into pick list boot up.If safe mpde loads--you have a software conflict--if not it could be a bad HDD or a virus. F-PROT has a free DOS virus scanner, you could use it to see about a virus. Google will find it for you.

: Many Thanks to Kirkridge, but i have to get a new chip as i tried it in another machine and it blew it up, so it is a faulty cpu, but many thanks for the advice
