: My son had a new P3B-F mobo that he could never get to boot. He returned it to ASUS and after a few MONTHS they sent it back indicating there was no problem with it! He gave up bought an ABIT mobo and has been happy since. He recently sent me the cursed thing to see if I might divine what was wrong. I downloaded the V. 1006 bios as I planned to put a Piii 700 in there if i got ot going. With ISA video card, fdd, hd loaded with WIN Me, a celeron 300a slot 1 cpu and 32 MB PC100 DIMM I powered it on to get "AWARD bios boot block v 1.0..bios checksum error" it is seeking fdd so i insert auto-flash bootable disk with v 1006 bios on it. after an initial 'general failure readin drive A:", i finallly get back to A: prompt. running aflash.exe gives "Update bios screen" "Flash memeory :mosel V29c51002T" Curreent bios version: just gibbrish, all symbols. However, it still gave me option to enter new file name for bios so i go with the v 1005. "Error-file open failure, esc to continue"...i esc to menu and try v1006..this programs!!! low and behold, it starts programming. indicates programming successful. i allow it to boot and it give cpu error. ok so i go into CMOS and set correctly for the 300a celeron i have in there for testing. reboot...she goes right in to winMe. woo woo, eh? No. i power her off to tend to vistors but when i return now the system is dead again! fans but no fdd access or video. playing around gets me no fdd seek, but the hd is accessed. video is blank, and monitor power light is sometimes on, sometimes standby with same conditions. i'm guessing bios was lost due to bad battery, perhaps. since it wont boot floppy or video (remember its an ISA card)i seem screwed.

: Ideas? Hope?
