: I have a Compaq Presario 5724 and I recently took out a CD Burner that I had installed previously. I have everything back together now but everytime I boot the computer up right after it shows the red Compaq logo it says "1720-Hard Drive detects imminent failure" and it gives you the option of going into the computer setup or going ahead and booting the computer. If you boot the computer, Windows starts fine and everything runs fine. One person suggested to try and update the Bios which I did but it still did not fix the problem. I am at a loss as of what to do now. Does anyone have any ideas?

I think Compaq is rying to tell you that either your HDD or your HDD controller is nearing failure. Suggest that you run a good HDD diagnostic - find out what make HDD is in your computer and download diagnostics from the maker. If you have SMART enabled it could be predicting HDD failure soon. Try to fix the problem, don't try to erase the symptoms.

Good Luck,
