: I need to upgrade my bios on my Soyo motherboard to try and get around the PCI bug thing, but AWFLASH will not run under windows 2000. I do not have access to a windows 98 boot disk, so how am I supposed to upgrade my BIOS?

So far, you have been VERY LUCKY. Most flash programs work well enough under windows to mis-flash your BIOS, but not well enough to do the job right (You can recover from mis-flash so learn now before you need to know). You MUST flash from a clean boot disk - that is, one with the two hidden files (IO.SYS and MSDOS.SYS), command.com, the flash program and the new BIOS update. NOTHING else (unless the update instructions require something more). Most versions of DOS will work (except NT, 2K, Me, XPb??). If all else fails, you can find PCDOS (5 disks) (and make a boot disk) at:
http://www.filelibrary.com/
Don't worry about HDD access (DOS is FAT 16, 2K may be NTFS or ... that DOS can't read anyway. Don't even try to access HDD while booted from the FDD - all you need is a DOS prompt and the right command string.

I've seen "ultimate bootdisk programs on the internet, but I suspect they just take files from the OS (meaning you'd need the OS to make 'em work).

Good Luck,
Henry
