I have a Halikan/Chaplet 486NBD with a 256 colour 640x480 TFT display. After storing it for some month with an empty battery, the BIOS came up with restoring default values.
Since then, the 256 colour mode is not available anymore (all diagnostic tools and drivers show standard VGA mode with 16 colours only), the setup offers no item for the graphics mode except LCD/Simul/VGA out only.
When booting, there are two BIOS messages, first PHOENIX VGA/LC BIOS V1.02 and then the regular PHOENIX BIOS for the board.
Since the notebook has been sold also with greyscale and passive LCD, I assume that the LCD type was stored in a buffered RAM, and the BIOS default is set for passive LCD with 16 colours.
Does anyone know a tool for setting the LCD colour mode?
