: Hello,

: I have a FIC pt-2006 motherboard with (what i think is) the most up-to-date version of the bios (807j802). I'm currently trying to get the board to recognize some new memory that i bought, but i cannot get it to work. My motherboard has 4 EDO SIMM slots on it, and 1 168-pin DIMM slot. I've tried configurations (based on the manual) with the dimm & simms in bank 0 only and also with just the dimm, but to no avail. I'm attempting to use a 64meg or a 128 meg (the later is questionable) as well.

: I've also tried clearing the bios and flashing it to a different version (807j801), but each time, i cannot get the motherboard to recognize the DIMM.

: Any suggestions? Please e-mail.

: Thanks.

The DIMM slot and the two aadjacent SIMM slots probably share memory addresses so it is best not to try to populat the both until you get something (the SDRAM) working.

DIMMs are really hard to seat, harder on some boards, but hard on all of them. Part of the problem is the mainboard bends when you push on the DIMMs - keep trying 'til you get it seated. Your PC won't boot if it is not seated (and only stick on the board).

You may have some chipset limitations could be SDRAM max MB on the stick, could be maximum bits per chip on the stick - the mainboard manual may help, the chipset specs should spell it out - but not always clear to us who use the information only rarely.

Get something working then expand from there - don't try fully loaded - too hard to troubleshoot.

Good Luck,
herny
