: : I have just upgraded my processor from a AMD K6-2/333 to a AMD K6-2/500. Both are the same voltage settings so I have not had to change anything on the mainboard. However my system will not pick it up and I think I need to update my BIOS.
: : Someone please help.

: : Thankyou

: Check your manual. You need to change the clock multiplier to get higher speed. Start with FSB (Clock) frequency at 66 MHz). Your "PC100" mainboard was made by PC Chips. If you need a manual, download one from the bottom of the page at:

: Actually, there is more to it than jumper settings. You must use an AMD aproved power supply - power quantity (Watts), Amps per voltage level and Power Quality are all important. Check AMD Power Supply Requirements (AMD Pub 21103) at:

: If your M577 is like most of the PC Chips boards of that vintage you may be lucky to get 400 MHz (6x66.6) with the AMD CPU. K6 CPUs recognize the 2x multiplier as 6x and groove accordingly. AMD CPUs sometimes work at higher FSB frequency (75 to 83 MHz) but they are the exception.

: Hope this helps,
