: If you can't find an onboard battery it is almost certainly hidden (possibly encapsulated) in your Real Time Clock module. Your alternatives will depend on the RTC module you have and if the board maker (PC Chips) planned ahead. Please post the RTC chip number (like DS12887, HT12888B, VT82885N, ...); RTC makers included Dallas Semiconductor, Houston Tech, Odin, Benchmarq, VIA and others.
: If you are lucky you have an onboard (probably) four-pin header (row of pins) with one pin (key) missing that is intended for you to install an auxiliary CMOS battery. Check your mainboard manual and inspect the board carefully, especially around the RTC module.
: Some of the older RTC chips were not Y2K compliant; they are no longer available but there are Y2K compliant subs for some of them (they usually require a BIOS update to use the sub).
: If we can't find a cheap fix you will spend your money more wisely on a mainboard upgrade - even if it is just a late model Socket 7 board, same form factor as you have now. Cheapest fix is just ignore it and reset your CMOS every time you start the PC; run on a UPS. One fellow just leaves his PC on constantly - no problem!
