: Hello
: I'm currently working on a rather old PC with an AI5TV
: motherboard, no further information unfortunately.
: I've run the bios wizzard and the output is as follows:

: Program: Unicore BIOS Wizard Version 1.5
: Program: Unicore Chip Detect v0.72 2000.03.10
: BIOS Date: 03/03/97
: BIOS Type: Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG
: BIOS ID: 03/03/97-i430VX,W83877F-2A59GM29C-00
: BIOS Eval: AI5TV-V7-0304
: Chipset: Intel Triton 430VX rev 2
: Superio: Winbond 877F (use 87h) rev 0 found at port 3F0h

:
: Can anyone point me to a site where I can get updates for this BIOS ? I want to install a bigger harddisk but since I don't have any manuals for this PC I don't know what the maximum size is that this BIOS supports. Before I go out and buy myself a useless big disk, I want to make sure I can use it. I've searched around the web and found a program that supposedly should be
: able to upgrade my BIOS but it just hangs. Nothing happens and I have to hard reset the box. lucky for me nothing happened to the BIOS so it is still working as I'm typing this message on it right now ;^)

WHAT did you find that is supposed to fix your BIOS? Please post file name and URL where I can find it (to satisfy my curiosity - I want to see what it does).

If no typos in the BIOS ID String your mainboard MAY have been made by Mycomp at:
http://www.mycomp-tmc.com
and:
http://www.mycomp.com.tw

Remote possibility your board was made by Interlogic at:
http://www.infoview.com/

You have an older mainboard - if you find a manual it may not tell you the HDD capacity limit (probably 8.4 GB). If you find a BIOS updte it may not tell you the HDD capacity limit either (probably 32 GB or LESS).

Suggest that you get the HDD that you want (up to 128 GB). If your BIOS doesn't support a HDD that large and if you can't find a BIOS update that supports it - just get an ATA/66 expansion card - it will support HDDs up to 128 GB and will be much faster than the sustained data transfer rate of your IDE HDD.

Good Hunting,
Henry
