: Could anyone tell me some info about my BIOS string
: 11/06/1999 - 693A/596B - W97 - 2A6LGQ1CC - 00

: I would like to identify the board manufacturer, BIOS supplier, etc. for a possible BIOS upgrade in the future.

: Thankyou in advance,
: John Cronin.

If you open your PC box the BIOS chip should have an "Award" sticker on it (it SHOULD be Award BIOS). The mainboard model and version should be printed on the board - possibly between slots, along an edge, near the CPU, in a relatively "bare" area or???; I've never seen it on the underside of a board (always a first time tho). You will definitely need to know the mainboard model number and possibly the version - so get 'em now and write them in your mainboard manual along with the BIOS ID String; if you don't have a manual - GET ONE.

If no typos in your BIOS ID string it appears that your mainboard was made by QDI at:
http:// www.qdigrp.com
or:
http://www.qdius.com/

If you want to know how to figure this stuff out yourself just study the motherboard ID article (it covers the basics) at:
http://www.pcnineoneone.com/howto/moboid1.html

BEFORE you even think about a BIOS update - if your PC is working OK and you have all of the features you need - DO NOT "update" your BIOS unless the mainboard maker requires it. Reason: Thee is NOTHING to gain and if anything goes wrong you will corrupt your BIOS. Don't risk it if you don't have to.

Good Luck,
Henry
