: Hello everybody

: I have a AMAX Max-s12 motherboard with Award Bios ver. 4.51PG. Recently i have incremented de amount of ram from 128 Mb to 256. The idea was to obtain a total of 320 Mb(256 module + 64 module) but the system only shows 256.It seems that the S12 only can get 256 Mb ram....I have located an newer version bios for my motherboard...It is possible that flashing the bios the S12 can work with a superior amount of ram or is simply a hardware limitation?? If anybody have any idea about it, please email me.

: Thank you

Memory limits are usually chipset limits, NOT BIOS problems; BIOS "update" is risky and unlikely to solve your memory problem. Chipset limits include maximum onboard MBytes, maximum MBytes per stick/module and maximum Mbits per chip on the stick. Check your mainboard manual and chipset specification book - they should state memory limits (or maybe a FAQ on mainboard maker's web site). Memory modules with chips on both sides are more likely to work (lower bit density per chip on the stick).

Hope this helps,
Henry
