: : Hopefully someone out there knows where to get a free bios flash for this motherboard.Alegedely the HD crashed, but i'm not so sure as i've tried auto detecting and manually putting in 3 different hard drives in cmos(one as old as 10-2-96)and all i get is hard disk fail(80) or when i go past that to fdsik it says error comunicating with drive c:.Is it possible that the bios will not even recognize a HD that is only one year older than the bios? It's an Award bios dated 1995.Would the cmos battery being dead cause this to happen? It saves the settings i put into cmos and keeps the correct time and date so i'm doubting it's the cmos battery.HEEEEELP Please! Thanks in advance,Drewpy

: Correct date and time says the CMOS battery is OK. If a virus attack you couldn't get into CMOS Setup, so - it sounds like something between the BIOS and the HDD - NOT the BIOS, NOT the HDD (try the HDDs in another PC if in doubt). That leaves the cable, the connection quality (bent pin anyplace?) and - the most likely - the onboard IDE function has probably failed (but TRY a known good cable).

: If onboard IDE is dead - is the board still under warranty? If not, consider an IDE card (ATA/66) or a new mainboard.

: Good Luck,

Henry,Thanks for getting back to me so promptly.I've used 3 known good cables on the system and i'm also noticing on post that it's not detecting the CD Rom either so i'm assuming this guy needs a new MB or a new system.I'm sure the MB is out of warranty as it's a 95 system, and theres not much point of installing an IDE card if the system will require 2 of them for using the CD rom as well as the HD.Were talking about 54 bucks at that point for two cards and a new MB compatible with the case would run around 60.Let me know if you have any additional ideas. Thanks again,Drewpy
