: I am having a problem with a computer and am at a loss. The mouse keeps locking up. It has a 433 processor with 13 GB hard drive and 128 MB RAM with Windows 98 2nd ed.
: It seems worse when on the internet and getting into secure areas (like email accounts). Have tried different mouse and driver, no luck. Have reformatted hard drive, no luck. Have installed a different modem thinking it may be some type of com problem, no luck. Any suggestions???

Seems like you get into trouble when you load up your system with "work"; several possibilities come to mind:
1. CPU related - CPU overheating, CPU voltage too high, power supply inadequate for AMD processor, heat sink/fan inadequate
2. Some other component overheating (video processor and chipset would be suspects, memory a long shot (feel components after freeze-up - cool the hot ones and see if that helps. Open the case and blow cool air in with a BIG fan - if that helps you have a heat problem.
3. OS and/or driver conflict - install all OS updates and find and install all of the very latest drivers (check chipset maker's web sites for very late driver updates and try them.

I had similar problems ages ago - video driver was my problem.

You might try unloading the PC as much as possible - disconnect and remove the "non-essentials" like LAN, Sound, ... (temporarily) - see if less complex load/lower power draw helps.

Please post any test results you have or get - the more we know the more likely that someone will get a good idea.

Good Luck,
Henry
