: WILL A A/B PT5 MOTHERBOARD SUPPORT A AMD K6-2 500MHZ PROCCESER

I can't positively ID your mainboard with the info you posted (at least 3 makers apparently used the PT5 model number). Your best info would be from the mainboard maker's documentation (spec sheet, manual and web site). If you need to figure out the board maker jsut follow the motherboard ID article at:
http://www.pcnineoneone.com

The fastest AMD K6 2s draw a lot of current and they need to be cooled really well. Your power supply and HSF should be AMD approved models. Your onboard VRs need to be adequate for the CPU current needed AND you must be able to match the CPU voltage requirement (k6 2-500s come in 2.4 and 2.2 core voltage models - you may need to pay extra to get 2.4v).

You can find AMD Requirements at:

http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_739_1102,00.html
[K6-2 xxx - Power Supply = AMD Pub 21103]
[K6-2 xxx - Thermal Solution = AMD Pub 21085]

You will need a FSB frequency of 83.3 MHz or higher (with PC100 or higher memory) and multiplier settings up to at least 5x if you want to run a K6 2 CPU at 500 MHz or higher. K6 2s (and 3s) interpret 2x multiplier as 6x; with 66 MHz FSB that's 400 MHz MAXIMUM, 75 MHz x6 = 450, 83.3 MHz x6 = 500.

Finally, the mainboard BIOS should support the CPU; if it doesn't you may run the right frequency but your BIOS may display a lower value. If your BIOS auto configures the CPU it is necessary for the BIOS to support the CPU.

Hope this helps,
Henry
