: : does anyone know if i can upgrade my bios on my Sony Laptop PCG-Z505JSK? if so, where can i get the update? i cant seem to get the memory to go above 256 and my harddrive to go past 12 gb? anyone have any suggestion.

: BIOS update probably will not increase the memory (RAM) limit of your laptop - that is usually a chipset limit. IF there is a BIOS update you should look for it on Sony's web site.

: I'm a bit surprised at the 12GB HDD size limit - most BIOS had limits that were 0.5, 2.1, 8.4, 32, 128GB. Is it possible that your HDD has a cylinder limit jumper installed (limits apparent HDD size)?

: If Sony does not have a BIOS update for your laptop then your choices for using larger HDD is limited. You can get a custom (expensive) BIOS from Unicore at:
:
: Your HDD maker MAY have a drive overlay program to enable using larger HDDs on your PC. Drive overlays do not always work (incompatible with BIOS), may be incompatible if you have different make/model HDDs on your system (NOT usually a problem on a laptop) and it may be difficult or impossible to remove without losing your files. There is a good article on drive overlay removal at:

: Some drive overlay names are Disk Manager, EZ-Drive and EZ-BIOS.

: Good Luck,
: Henry
