I am providing this information that it may help you overcome this problem which has been recently solved with the help of my motherboard manufacturer.

Motherboard: Tekram P6L40-A4

Original Problem:
System hanging during boot process at the "Verifying DMI Pool ........" message.

Removed and replaced defective CD-ROM Drive with similar, but not exact, make/model CD-Rom Drive. I had swapped out the drives without performing an intermediate boot sans CD-ROM Drive.

1. Replace Defective CD-ROM Drive into System.
2. Boot System (SYSTEM DID NOT HANG!)
3. Shut Down.
4. Remove Defective CD-ROM and Boot system (SYSTEM DID NOT HANG!)
5. Shut Down.
6. Install Replacement CD-ROM Drive and Boot Normally.

Before this action was taken... nothing would let the system boot past the "Verifying DMI Pool ........" message. I had tried all configurations: (i.e. No Drives. No Cards. No Video. No Memory. Fail-Safe BIOS Settings. Everything!)

It wasn't until I restored the system COMPONENTS to the last previously successful boot configuration that I was allowed to complete the boot process!

The CD-ROM Drives models are as follows:
40X BCD-40SB (defective?!)(DOA)
40X BCD-E520C

BTW- My motherboard manufatured has stated that this was a "BIOS date lose" and instructed to purchase and install a new BIOS chip. This is a free workaround.
