"error:device number 3 service B "

Hello & Good Day!

I came across you by experiencing the "error:device number 3 service B "...and I was doing some research on this particular error.
through a search with little results.

There seemed to be very little answers to the dilemmas out there so I thought that I would take it upon myself to answer this through experience.

This error was caused by incorrectly setting the CPU type, Clock Speed and/or multiplier.

My problem:
My Mobo auto-detected the CPU as a Cyrix 300 and clocked it at 75x4.
I know this bus speed is rated at 66 mhz, so I did a little fiddling with it trying to get it to run either faster or more proper.

When I set it to 66.6 Mhzx4.5 it detected my CPU as a 333, which is incorrect.

I booted up and got the above error. Tried Safe & Normal reboot because the error was with Windows. Did not work.

Set it to 60mhzx5 and it prompted me for Normal/Safe selection. I chose normal and it booted fine.

If you are still experiencing this error or whatever...
Check your CPU and settings, and maybe like so many out there, your CPU is really a different make or model, clock speed, production run, etc... or possibly a dishonest salsemen or nincompoop...maybe just human error.

I think this might be due to Windows looking to the registry for values that are not consistent to the install, and trying to use a Virtual Device Driver that is not intended for your CPU or it's current settings. (Because it 'thinks" it's something other than what it really is.)

Then again,.. it just might not be the same cause for this error.
This fix is what worked for me on a run of the mill chip and half ass motherboard combo.

No need to reply unless you want to.

Greetings,
