: can anyone tell me if it is necesary to update dmi. and what exactly does it do in the system. how do i update my bios to support acpi. thanks you help is duely appraciated

DMI and associated are "features" that facilitate "maintaining" a covey of PCs without touching them. If you have more than about ten PCs on a network spread all over - you might find DMI useful; otherwise forget it.

1. Find BIOS updates on mainboard maker's web site; the last update probably contains all of the prior revs.
2. READ all of the Release Notes you can find; they tell you what changes were made.
3. IF the feature you want is not mentioned then it IS NOT there. If you "update" your BIOS anyway you have NOTHING to gain and your BIOS to LOSE (misflash).

Hope this helps,
Henry
