: Hi all,

: I wanted to install a new maxtor 40GB (D540X-4K) hard drive, but my bios doesn't see it. when i connect the hard drive, the bios seems to be trying to find the drive, 'cause it doesn't boot at all (i can still acces the setup), without the drive connected it boots fine.
: I have an ASUS motherboard, with an award bios.
: BIOS-string: 01/21/98-82430TX->C-00
: motherboard/bios-version: 401A0/0109l
: i thought that if a bios-version is to old to find a large drive, it sees the drive, but with a smaller capacity, but ours just doesn't 'see' it.

: please help

Most likely possibility is that your BIOS does not support large HDDs >32GB (33.6GB); check BIOS Release Notes for capacity upgrade. If NO capacity upgrade for your mainboard just get an ATA/66 expansion card; it will support HDDs up to about 128GB.

Good Luck,
Henry
