Suggest that you follow the motherboard ID article (it tells ALL you need to know) to ID your board. If your manufacturer ID is 000000, 001437 or 009999 then try to ID your mainboard and find BIOS update links at:
Otherwise, look for a BIOS update at the mainboard maker's web site. A useful BIOS update for a board that "old" is highly unlikely (be sure and look anyway, the BIOS there just might solve your problem.
Read the BIOS Release Notes - the notes will tell you what changes were made since the previous issue. BIOS updates are usually cumulative, the last one contains all of the revs. Sadly, the Release Notes usually ARE NOT cumulative so you must read a lot of notes to figure out what was done. If the notes DO NOT mention a fix for your problem there is NOTHING to gain and BIOS to lose if you "update" anyway.
Post again if your problem isn't solved by the BIOS - there usually are inexpensive workarounds.
