: I would like to add a cd rom device to this computer but it is not listed in thesetup is this the bios and if so is there a way to upgrade the bios so I can addthe cd rom. The bios version is Phoenix 80386 Rom Bios Plus ver 1.10.53

If you have a choice of "SCSI" for an IDE device in CMOS Setup try choosing that for the CDROM. That will keep the BIOS happy and win should find the "new" device and load the drivers.

If "SCSI" isn't there or doesn't work, search for a BIOS update on the maker's web site (try e-mail, too); if you MUST have a BIOS update, Unicore will make a custom (expensive) BIOS for you:

Another way to get CDROM support is to get one of the Backpack Parallel Port CDROMs; at least one of them (the external CD-RW) is hot pluggable. Parallel Port devices don't need to be setup CMOS Setup. Backpack also has USB and PCMCIA interfaces for some of their drives.

Good Luck,
