: I have a 1997 Intel TC430HX with bios 1.00.07DH0 (build 5/30/97, American Megatrends). Recently I bought a Maxtor 40 gig HD. My bios can't recognise the HD! The bios claims its a 8,0 gig Maxtor.

: Is there an upgrade of the bios (been looking for weeks now!) or a 'large hd support driver' from Maxtor or something? Its getting rather frustrating..:( Thanx for your help, really appreciate it.

By FAR, the simplest, easiest, surest, least risky way to get large HDD support is to get an ATA/66 expansion card; it will support HDDs up to about 128GB. An ATA/100 would work, at about double the cost, but you are not likely to notice any performance improvement ofer the ATA/66 card (the HDD is the limiting factor, NOT the bus).

Good Luck,
