: got an via 5mvp3 and lost manual. old bios. broke my old hdd (2 gb) and bought 40gb 7200 seagate that my board won't recognise. what should I do?? Is it a bios update what I need and where do I find It anyway??(send Email please!) Thanks

Not enough information to tell what mainboard you have. BIOS function sets maximum HDD size you can use. You MAY find a BIOS update that would increase maximum HDD size, BUT it might not be enough (maybe only up to 32GB). You should look for a BIOS update on the mainboard maker's web site. For that you need to know maker, mainboard model and maybe hardware revision. To identify your mainboard just follow the motherboaard ID article at:
http://www.pcnineoneone.com

READ THE BIOS RELEASE NOTES CAREFULLY. If there is no mention of a fix for your problem DO NOT bother to update your BIOS; you would have nothing to gain and your BIOS to lose (misflash is frequent).

The quickest, surest way to get large HDD support is to use an ATA/66 expansion card - they support HDDs up to about 128GB. You could use an ATA/100 card (about double the cost) but you will not see much performance improvement. Reason: Sustained data rate of most HDDs is less that 40 MB/sec; check the specs for your new HDD.

Hope this helps,
Henry
