Your BIOS does not support HDDs larger than about 8.4GB. I'm guessing that a BIOS update would most likely provide about 32GB HDD support, but possibly larger IF the Release NOtes say so. It sounds like the file you downloaded may be a BIOS update. That is one way to go, IF Siemens says clearly that it will provide support for 40GB HDD (or larger). If it does not state that CLEARLY then BIOS update probably won't help. Look for BIOS update instructions on the maker's web site and follow them EXACTLY.

You can get support for HDDs up to about 128GB with an ATA/66 expansion card (ATA/100 would work too, but the price is about double and you WILL NOT see much, if any, performance difference). This is by far the surest, safest way to get large HDD support.
