: Best solution to your problem is to get an ATA/66 expansion card that supports HDDs up to about 128GB (ATA/100 works too). ATA/100 doesn't provide much, if any, performance improvement and the cost is about double ATA/66. Reason: HDD sustained data rate is the limit, typically 30-40 Mbps.
