Your CPU IS NOT the problem. Your BIOS does not recognize 40GB HDDs; its limit is probably 32GB but could be as low as 8.4GB. You should look for a BIOS update that supports HDDs larger than 40GB - there MAY NOT be an update for your BIOS. If you cannot find a BIOS update to solve your problem just get an ATA/66 expansion card - they support up to about 128GB. An ATA/100 card will work also (double cost) and WILL NOT provide much improvement, if any at all (speed limit is the HDD sustained data transfer rate, typically 30-40 Mb/sec).
