: Anyone know where I can get an update for an Award BIOS
: 10/13/98-VP3-586B-W877-2A5LECS9C-00, BIOS ID: 2A5LECS9C? One of Award's partners wants to charge $70 for a new chip when all I need is a flash. $70 is not worth the expense for a p2 450.

: Thanks!

You should look on your mainboard maker's web site for a free BIOS update, IF there is an update at all. You need to know your mainboard maker, the mainboard model and the hardware version of the board. Hardware version is probably printed on the board, maybe in a corner, maybe under a sticker. I think your mainboard was made by CSS Labs at:
http://www.csslabs.com

You should verify the maker and figure out what mainboard and chipset you have (probably VIA Apollo MVP3); just follow the motherboard ID article at:
http://www.pcnineoneone.com

BE VERY CAREFUL. Follow update directions EXACTLY. If you get the wrong update or misflash your BIOS you will need to Recover Corrupt BIOS. Not that tough, but it takes awhile to get it right.

If you just need large HDD support you can get an ATA/66 card for HDD support up to about 128GB - about $20 USD.

Hope this helps,
Henry
