: I am trying to install a 20 Gb HDD in a machine with the above board - but it only recognizes 8 Gb of the drive, so I think I need an update... Any suggestions of where I can get the correct one? - I can't seem to track one down on the 'net.

: Thanks.

: Here is some extra info:

: Award BIOS v 4.51PG
: Release 5/24/97 S
: PnP Award extension v1.0a
: ROM PCI/ISA BIOS (2A5LAH09)

You need to know your mainboard maker, mainboard model and hardware version. Your mainboard was made by PC Chips (aka Hsing Tech). The hardware version number is probably printed on the mainboard, probably in a corner, maybe under a sticker. Identify your mainboard model and find BIOS update and more at:
http://www.stud.fernuni-hagen.de/q3998142/pcchips/

Be very caeful and get the RIGHT BIOS update for your mainboard. If you use the wrong BIOS update you will corrupt your BIOS. Read all of the BIOS Release NOtes - the notes will tell you about the updates that were issued. There is nothing to be gained unless one of the updates included large HDD support (latest update includes all changes).

If you can't find a BIOS update to solve your problem just get an ATA/66 expansin card - they support HDDs up to about 128GB.

Good Luck,
Henry
