GOOD IDEA. Instructions for BIOS backup should be included in the mainboard maker's BIOS update instructions. Usually the flasher program will save the old BIOS or flash the new depending on command line switches. Exact instructions and syntax depend on BIOS maker and the mainboard maker. The BIOS makers usually have generic instructions on their web sites.

You can (usually) get a list of flasher switches (and what they do). At a DOS prompt, type:
>flashername [/? or /h or /H]

flashername is the filename of your flash program; one of the switches should generate the list of switches available.
