Hello experts. I am trying to install an older Scantak 2 scanner on my HP N3310 laptop. I have the original installation software but when I click on scan it tells me 'You need to disable the shadow memory (D000-D7FF) which is matched with the scanner interface card memory in the BIOS-SETUP menu.'

I have NEVER messed with any of those mysterious things like BIOS. Is this something I can do? Is this something I can change back if it does not help? What will go wrong if I mess it up?

The next command is even more obscure - 'You need to adjust scanner interface card's jumper to find the available memory address'. Good grief - what does that mean?

I have completed the installation per the scanner software but when I look in control panel it does not recognize that the scanner is there. The next 2 commands concern system.ini and config.sys files and those I have had a little bit of experience with.

Any guidance would be much appreciated. Also, if there is another forum more appropriate to this inquiry please advise. TIA.
