flash the bios is the way
I just did the bios flash on my inspiron 5000 and it worked just fine NO MORE PASSWORD , Just make you get the right one if not sure get the bios wizard from AWARD BIOS it runs a bios ID program and gives you your bios specs. Then go to dell and download your bios update and follow the Installation Instructions.regards

This file is a self-extracting archive that will create a bootable
diskette when run. Before executing this file, please be sure that you
have a blank diskette.

-Download this file to your local hard drive.
-Double click on the file to execute it
-Follow the onscreen instructions to create the FlashBIOS diskette.
-When the diskette has been created, save all files and power
down your system.
-Insert the diskette you created and turn your system on.
-Follow the onscreen instructions to upgrade your BIOS when the
diskette boots.
-When your system restarts, remove the diskette.

**NOTE - if you have made changes to your system's boot sequence,
the diskette may not boot automatically. If this occurs, consult
the documentation that came with your system to change the boot
sequence to 'diskette first'**


Inspiron 5000 FlashBIOS [Version A08] - This BIOS release is for the Inspiron 5000 only! Do not attempt to use this BIOS on an Inspiron 5000e.

Additional Information

Dell recommends that you have previously updated your system's BIOS to A06 before using this upgrade.
