hello,
i have a pc-100 motherboard M729, with AMI BIOS, and Pentuim II-300.
i have two hard drives, both Western Digital, one is 6.4GB and the other is 20.5GB, both UDMA mode 2.
the 20.5 drive is ATA-66.
i have both Windows 98 and Linux on my system (one at a time).
the 6.4 drive is working in windows, but not in DMA. (i go to CONTROL PANEL-SYSTEM-HARD DRIVE and the DMA checkbox is
not checked). when i check this checkbox and restart, it's unchecked automatically.
when i boot to linux, it writes the for all IDEs, DMA is disabled. (it writes "DMA disabled (BIOS)" ).
the 20.5 drive can't work without DMA. it works fine in dos-mode. in windows, i can't use it (it stacks when i call it).
my question is: what can i do to make it work in DMA? will update the BIOS work?

thank you,
nir.
