I got a Solo 2100 from a friend who got it from his manager where he used to work. I have tried to format the hard drive, and have 2 discs:

One is a 3.5 floppy Universal Boot Disc which preps the system for installing OS.

The other is a CD from Gateway entitled "Portable System Restoration CD Version 2.1".

The notebook/laptop has swappable floppy & CD drives, and after using the floppy to boot the system, the instructions are to power down, insert CD drive, then follow instructions from there.

The problem is that whenever the CD drive is inserted, the message "Invalid system disc, replace the disc then strike any key"... this message appears when there is no CD in the drive, if the Restoration CD is in the drive, or if the Windows 95 or 98 CD is in the drive. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? Gateway is most uncooperative and really acts like they do not want to speak to me because I bought this 3rd hand (or for whatever other reasons that they have never explained to me...) I will obviously NEVER buy another Gateway...used or otherwise...

I am willing to pay for the advice or copies of drivers that will help me get this much-needed notebook working for me.

Please reply directly to me. Thank you!
