: I have an AMI BIOS v1.5 on my PCChips 747 motherboard. I need to update it for Windows 2000 but the update on PCChips site does not work, I keep getting an error message saying it cannot find winbondXXXX on my system. Can someone offer some advice. I have written to the PCChips 3 times and get no response.
: Thanks

Hallo,

I have the same problem. I think I should write a few more words about my experience in upgrading
bios chip which may help others.
I got the PCCHIPS-M747 mainboard from a friend. The mainboard does not boot
after finishing self-check. It can setup CMOS values anyhow but refuses to boot
from floppy or harddisk. (May be it's the problem of mainboard controller).
However I decided to upgrade the bios chip according to some articles
published in famious magazine in China (with so many readers!).
(1.)I booted a computer with ASUS-P3B-F mainboard (BX chip and Award bios);
( The article said that different type of mainboard can be used anyway?).
(2.)I took up the good bios chip and put my old AMI bios chip in it.
(3.)Then I performed aflash.exe (which is suitable for Award bios chip and P3B-F
mainboard) and made a copy of my old bios chip first. It succeeded to do so.
The size of saved file is 131072 byte.
(As the article said, AMI flash writer program did not work correctly. It was
really the case).
(4.)Encouraged, I then chose upgrading the bios chip and input the filename
of new bios version , which size was 262144 byte. aflash.exe reported an
error of size and stoped. I had to choose a older version of bios which size
was also 131072 byte. This time aflash.exe warned that the sum check is
different and asked if continueed? Instead of choosing doing nothing with no,
I chose yes and aflash.exe wrote to the bios chip for a while and then halted
abnormally. I realized that it failed. But now no matter I tried to retore
the original version by using the saved file or write a new version, the
same problem happened again. With this bios chip, I started the M747 mainboard
again, it's only the black screen even without self-check as the original chip
did.
I am not sure if the article contained wrong message or I did wrongly. I hope
this problem can be clarified.
