BIOS Serial Number

Does every BIOS chip have a unique serial number? I am currently using the hard disk volume number as part of a copy protection strategy. However, I want to use something that is a little less 'volatile' and susceptible to change. I have considered using the MAC on network cards and the Pentium III Int96 ID. However, I can never be certain that either of these will always be available. A BIOS serial number, if such a thing exists will always be there. If it exists, is there a reliable way of accessing it under all flavors of Windows? I don't mind dipping into assembly etc.

Any help will be greatly appreciated
